HOMESTEAD POTTERY
Lisa Barry & Matt Mihlik
Utility and Nourishment
Rooted in Tradition
Dedicated to Craftsmanship
Matt and Lisa met at Sheridan College School of Craft and Design in the late 90’s studying ceramics. Together, from there they went on to receive their BFA’s from the Alberta College of Art and Design. Upon graduation they returned to Haliburton, Ontario and began setting up a home and studio on Lisa’s family Homestead. They renovated her grandfathers carpentry shop into a studio, gallery and built a wood fired kiln. In a short few years they became founding members of a local Arts collective and Lisa became an instructor at Haliburton School of the Arts. Matt expanded his knowledge of craft and design by venturing into working with wood and specializing in hand carving spoons. Their work speaks about utility but more importantly about being nourished.
Winter Musings…
January and February are months dedicated to setting the table for the year ahead. We are in the early stages of design and production of new work. This is also the time of year for hearty meals, getting lost in winter splendour and systematically crafting a year ahead.
